A quantidade de carros lotação em São Luís vem aumentando desde o início do ano porque o transporte público da capital não é suficiente para atender aos moradores dos bairros da área Itaqui-Bacanga. Os donos desses transportes alternativos se organizaram em cooperativa e conseguiram uma liminar na Justiça para poder transportar passageiros, a liminar durou apenas uma semana e a suspensão causou revolta entre eles.
De acordo com a Procuradoria Geral do Município o problema de transporte público deverá ser resolvido com licitações para as empresas de ônibus que circulam na capital.
